Profile disability advocate, Scott Papas, calls for more visibility in the form of a public register to capture complaints
Scott Papas is a highly experienced and respected disability advocate. Founder of Pursue Ability, he is firmly focused on providing quality NDIS accommodation and services for people living with psychosocial disability and long term mental health issues.
While the extension for the completion of the aged care royal commission’s final report until the 23rd of September 2023 will enable more hearings to take place and more consultation with the community to be undertaken, much more needs to be done to support and protect people living with disability as they enter their later years.
People living with disability grow old too. They need higher levels of support and care and my concern is that this has not been given enough focus so far. My hope is that this is an area that will be allocated more priority as the commission continues its work.
Given the extent of people living with disability in aged care, I feel the disability sector needs to be well represented in the consultation and decision making process framework for the implementation of recommendations and funding of services for this growing group of people.
